Ready to break out of traditional watercolor? This playful, process-focused class invites you to explore a more abstract and experimental approach to painting. Using watercolor alongside other water-based media like gouache, acrylic, ink, and optional collage or pastel, we’ll dive into creative mark-making, color exploration, and composition. Each week includes demos, discussions of modern and contemporary artists, and time to develop a personal series of artworks. Open to adventurous artists with some painting experience.

Plein Air: Watercolor Class

Celebrate spring by painting outdoors in beautiful local settings, including the C&O Canal and nearby gardens. This plein air watercolor class invites you to observe nature closely and capture the light, color, and atmosphere of the season. Each session offers gentle guidance, demonstrations, and time to explore your personal style in a supportive environment. Open to all levels.

Plein Air: Spring Forest Art Workshop

Saturday, May 3 | 1:00 – 4:00pm
Brookeville, MD | $75

Reconnect with nature through art in this peaceful plein air workshop. We’ll begin with a gentle forest meditation walk and guided stretch to ground ourselves, followed by painting blooming trees in the spring landscape. Bring your own watercolor supplies, or rent a palette, brushes, and paper for the day for $15. Please bring paper towels and water cups. A perfect way to slow down, observe, and create in the fresh forest air.

Plein Air: Watercolor Flowers at Brookside Gardens Workshop

Saturday, May 18 | 1:00 – 4:00pm | $50

Join me for an afternoon of plein air painting surrounded by the spring blooms of beautiful Brookside Gardens. We’ll meet at the main Visitors Center before heading out to paint on location, capturing flowers in full color and light. The workshop includes live demonstrations, hands-on painting time, and supportive group critiques. Open to all levels.

Are you in love with looking at watercolor? Have you taken one or two painting classes and want more practice with the basics? Palette set up, color mixing, brush use, texture, composition, achieving light, and much more will be presented in enjoyable, easy to understand ways. Weekly demonstrations, art talks and critiques are included. No experience necessary, just patience and an open mind.

Learning to paint can be exciting, especially when with a group of brilliant supportive artists. Come join us painting outdoors along the Potomac River. Relax in nature, experience the real thing. No virtual screens, no photos. Then you will understand that the process is the most important part of creating. Bonny will demonstrate and talk about how to set up comfortably as well as find a great spot and composition.
